History
Founded in 1966 by Max Fordham, the practice continues to develop with its original philosophy still at its heart. Many landmark buildings have been engineered, such as the Royal Festival Hall in London and the MAXXI in Rome, working with leading international architects. But the practice’s approach has been equally influential in the design of sustainable building services through the breadth of its work in all sizes and sectors of building. These include education, workspaces, healthcare, sport and leisure, cultural and residential.
Over more than 40 years, the practice has won many prestigious awards, including the Queen’s Award for Enterprise – Sustainable Development. Now with 142 staff, including 112 engineers, the practice operates as a limited liability partnership from offices in London, Edinburgh and Cambridge.
"Designing buildings is a great intellectual challenge for an engineer, no building's principle purpose is to be sustainable so the real challenge is to make them safe, efficient and functional with longevity in mind."Bill Watts
