Clandon Park Mansion Reborn

6 December 2017

Clandon Park mansion, near Guildford in Surrey, is to be revamped in a £30million renovation.

The Grade I-listed, 18th century house, damaged by fire in April 2015, will be refurbished by a design team including architects Allies and Morrison, and Purcell, structural engineer Price and Myers, and Max Fordham.

Senior Partner at Max Fordham, and project engineer for the renovation, Mark Nutley said the practice was especially happy to be working on such a historically important building.

'This is a great opportunity to give this wonderful house another life,' Nutley said. 'The National Trust have called it their biggest conservation project in a generation, and the engineers at Max Fordham are excited about being a part of that story.'

Some of the most important rooms in the house - including the Marble Hall, the Saloon and the Speakers' Parlour - where key architectural features survived the fire, are to be restored to their 18th-century glory.

Some of the less architecurally-significant rooms on the upper floors didn't fare so well, and will be transformed into flexible spaces for exhibitions, events and performances.

Construction is expected to commence in 2019.
