French-speaking Mechanical Engineer - London Office

Since 1966, Max Fordham LLP has worked with the world’s leading architects to create beautifully engineered buildings. Our building services engineers bring an understanding of the whole building, from early stage design concept to the detail of delivery.

We work on internationally important landmark buildings like Tate Modern, Rome’s MAXXI and Royal Festival Hall and also on smaller buildings that are just as important.

Our success is a result of our people. To produce the highest quality and most innovative engineering we need people who can think both creatively and practically. We are the originators of architectural engineering – the drive for engineers to care as much about the finish of the buildings as the architects. Our engineers understand both the big picture and small detail of a building, and aim to deliver beautifully engineered low-energy buildings that work.  Our engineers are encouraged to generate and develop their own ideas, handling a wide range of technical issues.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a mid-level mechanical or M&E engineer, with around 6 years of design experience, to join one of the engineering teams in our London office as soon as possible.  We are attracting an increasing amount of work in French-speaking countries, and as a result, a good level of spoken and written French is a requirement for this role.  The engineer will be required to take part in technical meetings held entirely in French, and to produce drawings and reports in French.

The right person is likely to be chartered or working towards chartership, and will have a detailed understanding of HVAC system design.  Experience of public health and electrical design would also be beneficial, as would experience of site-work.

The applicant will have experience of leading small groups of engineers, either taking primary responsibility for smaller projects, or leading the mechanical design on mid-size or large projects.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, who will work well under pressure and be able to prioritise a highly varied workload. The individual must be a team player, able to give and take direction with credibility at all levels and instil confidence within a multi-talented team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer who is looking to expand their experience.

What you can expect

You will get a chance to work on a wide range of projects and sectors, which all require a thoughtful and high quality approach to design and delivery.  Our people enjoy contributing to the process of collaborative working; from developing a well thought-out brief to delivering a building or project that exceeds the client’s expectations.

The 2010 Building Good Employers’ Guide recognised Max Fordham as the top engineering employer and ranked us in the top 5 of all employers across the whole of the construction industry.

We are proud of this award, because it is based on surveys completed by employees, and reflects how our people think and feel about the Practice.

We attach great importance to the people who join us, and our founding values remain true today.  We are a limited Liability Partnership.  The structure of our organisation is designed to give all who work with us a voice in key decisions, and all employees are considered for partnership after four years of continuous employment with us.

Now what to do

If you are an intermediate mechanical or M&E engineer, with an understanding of HVAC design and a good level of spoken and written French, we would like to hear from you.

Please send us your CV, demonstrating high academic achievement, relevant experience and interests, as well as a chatty letter telling us why you would like to work for us.

Send your application to Emma Schofield at jobs@maxfordham.com, or by post to 42/43 Gloucester Crescent, NW1 7PE. You will also need to demonstrate that you are eligible to work in the UK.
