A picturesque former egg farm was developed as energy-integrated offices and a visitors centre for Renewable Energy Systems Ltd. The main building was renovated and extended, and a new building constructed to house elements of the integrated energy system. Surrounding agricultural land is used for the energy crop miscanthus to fuel a biomass boiler. Electricity is generated on site from a wind turbine and PV array. Due to the need to seal the building against noise, natural ventilation was not an option. Instead, a borehole provides cool water which is circulated through chilled beams, and strategically placed vegetation helps keep the building cool.
