I joined Max Fordham in the early seventies so I've seen many things change and grow while I picked up the breadth of experience which only 35 years in an industry can provide.

The quality and diversity of the buildings I've worked on over my career form a very broad portfolio. The different challenges presented by these projects keep me and other people in the practice involved and interested in our work. Throughout this time, the solid foundation in engineering which is fundamental to the clear and efficient delivery of our projects, has remained unchanged.

I use my experience to ensure clients work with the best engineers with the right expertise to deliver the building they want. I work with the client at the outset to identify the most appropriate engineering solutions for their project and match our resources to the requirements. I maintain an overview to develop concepts and oversee the job through to completion and hand over; in short, ensuring that what we deliver is what we promised.I make sure I am as involved as much as is necessary to provide continuity of service My ability to get involved, when appropriate, in all aspects of the design and management of a project provides clients with a level of confidence and an immediately accessible senior point of contact.

Not losing touch with engineering practice is important to me; after all, I'm still an engineer. I always try to have at least one project where I have a very close design involvement and see it through from briefing to hand over. The challenges presented by the types of buildings we get involved with are opportunities to develop techniques and explore new ways of working, which all help to make engineering such a satisfying profession.
