Pedro Novo
BSc PhD MIOA

Acoustic Engineer

After a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lisbon Pedro has spent five years at the Institute of Communication Acoustics of the University of Bochum, Germany where he has  concentrated on the development of Auditory Virtual Environments. This technique can be used, for example, to render audible spaces before they have been built- Auralization.

A fellowship at the University of Salford has followed where studies on the factors influencing acoustic comfort were undertaken. The focus of these studies was in spaces with complex geometries and / or with a large number of sound sources, such as restaurants, museums and swimming pools.

Since joining Max Fordham LLP, Pedro has worked in a variety of projects, including schools, offices and museums. These projects included the new Student Enterprise Building at the University of Coventry, the new Woodland Trust Head Offices, the Middle East Centre at the Oxford University, the new building for the Royal College of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts in Nantes, France.

Pedro is actively promoting the use Auralization as a tool to communicate acoustic concepts and ideas within the design team and to the clients. These involve audio presentations of 3D simulations of acoustic spaces testing different solutions for sound insulation and reverberation control.

He is a Member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA).
