2016: A year in review

23 January 2017

Welcome to 2017 and the start Max Fordham's 51st year!

Last year was a particularly special one for the Practice as we celebrated our 50th Anniversary and recorded a number of other highlights.

On the project front, we were delighted to unveil Switch House at Tate Modern, one of the most significant cultural buildings to be opened in 2016.

Also opened last year was the headquarters for the Bath and North East Somerset council at Keynsham Civic Centre, the new home of Scottish sport at the Oriam Centre in Edinburgh, the Cambridge Sustainable offices at 51 Hills Road, and the refurbishment of the Liverpool Philharmonic.

The Max Fordham trophy cabinet also recieved a boost with a raft of awards that included the RIBA Stirling Prize for Newport Gallery, and the second consecutive RIBA House of the Year, this time for Murphy House.

This year also saw Senior Partner, Tamsin Tweddell crowned ‘Woman of the Year’ at the Building Awards, celebrating stand-out achievement by a woman in the construction industry.

Our showcase events of the year were undoubtedly our 50th anniversary celebrations across all our offices around the country, culminating with our final celebration at ‘The Tanks’ at Tate Modern Switch House. Max delivered his speech to nearly 600 guests, reminding us how the Practice was formed and what it stands for.

We'd like to thank everyone who played a part in our successes last year, we look forward to working with you again, and we hope that you too have a prosperous year ahead.
