Year in Review: A glimpse into the 2020 of our Edinburgh Office

By Colin Hamilton

2020 has been a strange year with everything stopping and starting, and increasing difficulty in almost every aspect of life.

Some things have continued as usual, such as our ongoing work with the Scottish Parliament, now in a new 2020 framework for another four years. This continues to provide a regular flow of interesting work.

Much of our housing work, with clients such as Peabody, has continued and we have also become involved in more private housing work locally. We have been delivering coordinated installation drawings for contractors on projects such as University of Portsmouth and Wembley Link and are keen to deliver more. New museum work has been won such as the Hong Kong Museum of History, Scottish Fisheries Museum and more work at the National Museum of Flight. Moreover, we were able to build on our expertise in the cultural sector, winning theatre projects at Edinburgh Playhouse, Eden Court Theatre and PACE theatre in Paisley. New Passivhaus work will be done at Perth High School and National Museum of Flight as well as delivering much of the Lucy Cavendish Passivhaus project.

Some of our cultural projects have also won awards again this year, including Leeds Playhouse winning the Scottish Design Awards 2020 Architecture Grand Prix and Public Building of the Year. The Engine Shed won CIBSE 2020 Public Use Project of the Year and Building Performance Champion.

We have maintained our push for continual improvement in our environmental performance, achieving Resource Efficient Scotland’s highest-level Platinum Award for our work and future commitments to reduce carbon emissions from waste, operational energy, business travel and commuting for the Edinburgh office.

Considering that everyone has been working from home since March, it's fair to say that this year’s performance may be difficult to beat.
