Brockholes receives BREEAM Outstanding at design stage

10 January 2011

In a Max Fordham project first, the Brockholes Visitors Centre has been awarded design stage BREEAM Outstanding, the highest environmental standard for best practice in sustainable design from the UK Building Research Establishment.

The project is low-carbon both in use and production, with a preference for locally sourced, natural and recycled materials as well as on-site energy generation and waste treatment.

Congratulations go to the project team, who won an international competition to design and build the UK’s only floating venue at the former gravel quarry.

The Brockholes Visitors Centre, which will be built on recycled concrete pontoons within 106 hectares of mixed wetlands and ancient woodlands, is expected to open in Spring 2011.
