Oriam Wins at CIBSE Awards!

7 February 2018

It was a successful night for the Practice at this year’s CIBSE Building Performance Awards as Max Fordham won the Project of the Year Award for Oriam in the Leisure category.

Max Fordham collaborated on Oriam, Scotland’s National Sports Performance Centre, with Reiach and Hall Architects, as well as structural engineers Engenuiti, contractors Bowmer & Kirkland, and Castle Building Services.

The Practice provided environmental and building services design, as well Soft Landings, sustainability consultancy and acoustic design.

The judges commended the Practice for designing natural lighting in order to minimise energy consumption. The Soft Landings process was also praised as this was instrumental in fine tuning controls to improve user comfort and building performance.

Senior Partner, Mark Palmer made special mention of the client for the project. 'They were fully committed to the Soft Landings process, working closely with us throughout to achieve the highest quality sporting environments for the lowest possible energy consumption.'

The vision for the Centre was to deliver high quality facilities for sportsmen and women, whilst focusing on sustainability and minimal energy costs.

Oriam is the performance home for the Scottish Football Association for all national football teams, coach education and referee development. It is also home to senior Scottish rugby teams, Scottish basketball, handball, squash and racketball.
