'Sweet 16' for our Edinburgh Office

25 January 2019

The doors swung open on our Scottish office in January 2003. As the third Max Fordham base after London and Cambridge, Edinburgh started with four people working on the new Edinburgh College in the city’s north. Other projects quickly followed and the team expanded over the next sixteen years to now number more than thirty.

Senior Partners Colin Hamilton and Mark Palmer have been on board from the beginning. They were keen to set Max Fordham’s Scottish office apart from the competition right from the outset.

‘People we work with appreciate our enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to quality. We are very flexible and open to new ways of doing things, rather than adopting a standard approach to varying challenges.’
- Colin Hamilton, Senior Partner

Max Fordham is essentially an employee-owned company. After approximately four years tenure at the Practice, employees are invited to become Partners. Max himself said that once someone has ‘proved themselves fit to be an employee, they are fit to be a Partner.’ He noted that Partnership is not a profit-sharing scheme, ‘it’s a responsibility-sharing scheme’. This approach means that everyone, from the engineers working on your project to everyone in business support, is directly committed to your success.

‘Our Edinburgh office has grown steadily in size over its 16 years. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience, both local and further afield, which means we're able to successfully deliver projects of all sizes, complexities and across all sectors.’
- Mark Palmer, Senior Partner

Our completed projects in Scotland, the North of England, and continental Europe have come from a wide range of sectors and building types. Many clients and architects we have worked with, we continue to work with time and time again.
