University of Portsmouth Sports Centre Granted Planning Approval

The University of Portsmouth has been granted planning permission to build a new £53m sports building at their campus in Ravelin Park.

Max Fordham, working with FaulknerBrowns, are designing low energy MEP installations for the new 11,000 building, which will feature an 8-lane 25m swimming pool, a fitness suite, an 8 court sports hall, climbing wall, office space, teaching facilities and squash courts.

Max Fordham are also appointed as the Soft Landings champion and BREEAM Assessor - leading the delivery of the University’s brief for BREEAM Outstanding and DEC ‘A’ rating for energy efficiency.

The project is on track to be the first sports building in the UK to achieve a BREEAM rating of Outstanding. Construction is due to start this autumn and to complete in late 2020.
