Most people don't think about how they get water out of a tap in a bathroom on the 15th floor.
And that's how it should be; seamlessly integrated, functioning building services.
But I consider how that person will use the building, even if they are not actually represented at the early design stages.
My approach is to start with the aspirations and requirements for the project, understanding the people involved and their motivation, in order to get the brief right.
By seeing things from the point of view of the client, the installer or future building manager I can make sure what we design fits with the original project goals.
I have a good overview of the whole construction process, across different building types and sectors. This makes me readily able to provide answers in design team meetings, to keep the process moving along.
