I like to test assumed knowledge and common practice. I’m only satisfied with a solution when I fully understand its basis and how it can be implemented.
My inclination to re-assess problems and their solutions stems from the rigorous approach and questioning nature I needed in the scientific research environment. Having asked the right questions at the beginning, I'm able to develop detailed designs and demonstrate their robustness and value to the project.
Across all projects I use data evaluation and modelling to deliver natural ventilation, daylighting, passive cooling and thermal mass strategies. With Grade I listed New Court, Trinity College, Cambridge, the challenge was to persuade English Heritage to support the retrofitting of internal insulation.
This combination of scientific research and engineering know-how gives me the ability to bring fresh ideas to the brief and deliver them in a timely and effective manner.
