ABOUT THE ROLE
An exceptional opportunity is available to join our expanding Building Performance Modelling team in our London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, and Manchester offices.
As part of this team, the successful candidate would work collaboratively with our wider building services teams to develop energy and thermal strategies that enable us to deliver world-class sustainable buildings.
This is an engineering position specialising in the use of Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) Virtual Environmental (VE) modelling software. The role involves carrying out domestic and non-domestic modelling for:
- UK Building Regulations energy assessments (Part L, Section 6)
- Operational energy assessments (CIBSE TM54)
- Overheating assessments (Part O, CIBSE TM52, CIBSE TM59)
- Natural ventilation modelling
- Daylight modelling
- BREEAM modelling
- NABERS modelling
The role involves engaging and collaborating with the wider design team to develop the modelling within the project constraints. This is in addition to supporting our project engineers, giving guidance on when modelling is required, the extent of modelling required, sensible approaches to issues, etc. while having the confidence to interrogate the brief received a project engineer.

This role requires a motivated team player who is keen and willing to learn. As such, essential personal attributes for this role include a strong sense of ownership for the work that you do. You must care about the presentation and detail of the design and have a strong desire to achieve technical excellence and completeness.
To qualify for this role, you should ideally have a background in maths, science or engineering, however, we are open to receiving a broad range of applicants. You should have a strong desire to work in the building design industry.
Ideally, you will have the minimum equivalent of 2 years’ experience in delivering this type of modelling within IES-VE and have an understanding of low energy and passive design. A basic understanding of mechanical engineering design would also be advantageous; however, this is not imperative. It would also be advantageous if the applicant was a qualified Low Carbon Energy Assessor, however this again is not essential.
Good communication skills are important for this role, both verbal and written, as articulating proposals and results in an engaging way is imperative to achieve a successful outcome. You will show attention to detail, have excellent time management and organisational skills as the nature of the work means they will potentially have several projects in progress at once.
