ABOUT OUR LEGAL TEAM

Our Legal Team sits within a wider central Administration Group and currently comprises the Legal Director in London and a Legal Advisor in our Manchester office who collectively provide support to the Practice on a range of Legal Issues.

We are now looking to expand the team by the addition of a Legal Advisor in our Bristol office and will also recruit a Legal Administrator to the team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Legal Director and working closely with other members of the team, the Legal Advisor will undertake the following key duties:

  • Review, amend and negotiate the terms of contractual appointments and advise Project teams on relevant risks.
  • Provide advice on contractual and other project legal matters to our Project teams
  • Provide legal input where required in relation to conflicts or disputes on projects
  • Assist in the preparation and provision of internal guidance and tools to increase the legal understanding and knowledge sharing across the Practice.
  • Assist other members of the legal team on ad hoc matters in a variety of areas as and when required

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will need to have strong legal experience in the construction industry and be familiar with the construction process. You will be a patient and excellent communicator, with the ability to understand and summarise complex specialist principles clearly and concisely in straight forward language to a non-specialist audience, both in writing and in conversation.

Our Practice thrives by our close relationships with our clients and wider project team partners. The successful candidate will therefore care as much about strengthening these relationships as we do and recognise the role they play as they represent our Practice in constructive and positive contractual discussions.

The following skills are essential to the success of this important role:

  • Experience of reviewing and negotiating contracts in the construction industry, including formulating alternative wording, and effectively presenting positions both internally and externally.
  • Solid understanding of Construction Industry Professional Indemnity insurance.
  • Creative and pragmatic approach with confidence to make decisions
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment and manage conflicting demands and deadlines
  • Direct experience of managing disputes would be advantageous
