What We Do

As building services engineers, we combine creativity and engineering to design innovative, elegant and sustainable buildings in the UK and overseas. For over 50 years we've brought this approach to projects of all sizes across all building sectors. Our portfolio includes award winning buildings and internationally renowned landmarks, and we have had one of our projects feature on the shortlist for the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize in each of the last three years.

We have also been recognised as a good employer, with regular entries in the Building Magazine Good Employer Guide and have previously been awarded the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers medium-sized Employer of the Year Award. We have also held the Diversity and Inclusion Champion award from The Association of Consultancy and Engineering.  We are a Living Wage Employer.

We offer a different sort of working environment. What makes us different is that our innovative approach to building design also extends to the way in which we run our business. The Practice is owned by the people who work for us, and our unique approach to ownership and governance puts trust and transparency at the heart of how we operate.

We currently have a small legal team of two people working within our central Administration Group in our London office. They provide support across the business on a range of legal issues. With the more routine contract review and application work taking place in our eight engineering groups, we are expanding our central team to provide additional support to the engineering teams and increase our capacity to focus on the more complex contracts and wider legal matters.

  • Assist in the preparation and sharing of internal guidance and tools to increase and share legal understanding across the Practice.
  • Assist other members of the legal team on ad hoc matters in a variety of areas as and when required

To be successful in this role, you will need to have strong legal experience in the construction industry and be familiar with the construction process. You will be a patient and excellent communicator, with the ability to understand and summarise complex specialist principles clearly and concisely to a non-specialist audience, both in writing and in conversation.

The following skills are essential to the success of this important role:

  • Experience reviewing and negotiating contracts in the construction industry, including formulating alternative wording and effectively presenting positions both internally and externally.
  • Solid understanding of Construction Industry Professional Indemnity insurance.
  • Creative and pragmatic approach with confidence to make decisions
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment and manage conflicting demands and deadlines
  • Direct experience of managing disputes would be advantageous

  • Excellent growth opportunities for your personal and career development in a knowledge driven environment
  • Mentored support towards professional accreditation
  • Interesting and technically challenging projects
  • An inclusive culture and cooperative environment
  • Opportunities for involvement in business-running activities
  • Flexible working arrangements
