SENIOR /INTERMEDIATE ENGINEER – CAMBRIDGE OFFICE
Have you got what it takes to use Beautiful Engineering to tackle the climate emergency?
As building services consulting engineers and environmental designers we have led from the front for over 50 years in the drive to realise a better quality and more sustainable built environment through the application of sound scientific and engineering principles.
We care passionately about well-designed, sustainable buildings that really work for the people who use them and we have a host of CIBSE Building Performance and BSRIA Soft Landings Awards to prove it. Our approach is to consider the whole building and its surrounding environment before applying clear thought to arrive at well-integrated, elegant, simple solutions that meet our clients’ needs.
At the heart of our business is a Partnership owned by the people who work in it. Founded on cooperative principles, and underpinned by a strong ethos and values, we share the rewards and responsibility.
It is an exciting and fulfilling way to work and we have been recognised as the best engineer in Building Magazine’s Good Employer Guide on no less than eight occasions since 2008.
You will find that we work across a range of sectors, including arts & leisure, residential, education, offices and sports facilities, and you will have the opportunity to work with some of the world’s leading architects in the UK and abroad.
We want to recruit like-minded people to join our 220 strong practice and help us to build an exciting future.
Be a leader and a game changer, and join our Practice. We are open for business, and if you have what it takes, we want you to be a part of it. We are inviting keen and interested Intermediate and Senior Building Services Engineers with experience of fronting projects on a day-to-day basis to join us. We look forward to hearing from you.
About the Role
Project Engineers are at the core of our projects, being the people in charge of the day-to-day running of projects and acting as the first port of call both internally and externally. As such, they will have the most detailed knowledge about all aspects of their projects.
We are looking for engineers who want to be able to see and influence the big picture. What clients and our society need, what the climate emergency demands, the role of design in this and how we will communicate this clearly with our clients and as part of an expert construction team. The test of this is the quality of the building we deliver to the users and the strength of the role we play in achieving this.
You will work on a wide range of projects and sectors, which all require a thoughtful and high quality approach to design and delivery. Our people enjoy contributing to the process of collaborative working from developing a well thought-out brief to delivering a building or project that exceeds the client’s expectations.
For the right candidate, there may be an exciting opportunity to begin to run a team of engineers, as well as contributing to the development of the Cambridge office and the wider practice.
About the person

The right person is likely to be chartered or working towards chartership, and will have a good understanding of building services system design and running projects from inception to practical completion.
The applicant may have experience of leading small groups of engineers, either taking primary responsibility for smaller projects, or leading an area of design on mid-size or large projects.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, and who will be able to prioritise a highly varied workload. The individual must be a happy to work in a team, being able to give and take direction at all levels and instil confidence within the team.

It's conventional for businesses to say that they're an "equal opportunities employer" or that they "comply with the Equality Act" as a way of telling potential applicants that their business is a nice place to work. We are, and we do. But that's really only committing to an absence of discrimination, and for us that's not enough. Our commitment is not only to eliminate and avoid discrimination, but to create an environment where our differences can be celebrated and valued.
