76 Portland Place

The Royal Insitute of British Architects commissioned Max Fordham to work with Theis and Khan Architects to refurbish the building that serves as the new home of the Institute.

The flexible work environment is set in a 1950s building - previously the Insitutue of Physics, and a short walk from RIBAs historic base at 66 Portland Place. Our work included the full replacement of all existing mechanical and electrical works.

To accommodate a tight budget, the building services were designed to be simple and to provide passive conditioning wherever possible. Mechanical cooling is deployed strategically in the offices and will only be utilised in the peak of summer.
