Godolphin & Latymer School

Godolphin and Latymer School Sports Centre

Godolphin and Latymer School, an independent school for girls, was established in Hammersmith, London, in 1861.

The new Sports and Fitness facility occupies the site of the former sports hall, comprising a four-court sports hall, fitness and dance studios, a classroom, change rooms and storage. The school expressed an ambition for the new building to be naturally lit and as naturally ventilated as possible. Planning considerations also dictated a 20% renewable energy target. Our design included the air source heat pump, photovoltaic cells, low energy controls and high performance building fabric meet these ambitions.

Some mechanical ventilation assistance accounts for seasonal weather extremes, allowing for heat recovery and supplementing underfloor heating in winter.

The external fabric has been punctuated by grilles designed to allow the building to be naturally ventilated, creating optimum conditions for a wide variety of sports

Generous daylighting was a requirement of the design brief, significantly reducing the energy demand
