The Birks Cinema

The Art Deco Birks Cinema, located in Aberfeldy, Scotland stopped showing films in 1982.

It then became an amusement arcade that closed for business in 2004. The £1.3m project to revive the cinema came to fruition in 2013, aided by local support and celebrity endorsement from former resident, Hollywood actor Alan Cumming.

Max Fordham performed the mechanical and electrical engineering, and acoustic design for the cinema. The design provides good levels of resource efficiency together with high levels of acoustic separation between the auditorium and the plant.

It was the winner of RIAS National Award 2014
