London 2012 Water Polo opens with smashing test event

4 May 2012

The Water Polo Arena at Olympic Park has hosted the opening game of the Visa Water Polo Invitational test event, with the Australian women's water polo team defeating hosts Great Britain.

The venue has received some great feedback from visitors and players alike.

The BBC reported that Great Britain goalkeeper Rosie Morris enjoyed her first experience of the Olympic Arena, saying, "It was absolutely incredible - the crowd were so noisy and the pool felt great. Every time I made a save or we scored the atmosphere was amazing."

The 5,000 seat temporary venue, was designed by David Morley Architects. Olympic Marketing Protocols prevent mention of who designed the building services, HDTV sports and feature lighting, PAVA system, and acoustic and sustainability consultancy.

The London 2012 Water Polo Arena is the first bespoke Water Polo venue for an Olympic Games, and features a 37m competition pool plus a smaller training pool.
