Beyond Net Zero: our involvement with Westminster's Retrofit First policy
We're taking part in Regenerative Design 2026, at the Building Centre in London from 1–30 October, which brings the built environment together to turn ambition into action. The month-long programme hosted by the Regenerative Architecture Index (RAI), Architecture Today, and Architects Declare, explores what regenerative design means in practice.
Kiru Balson, Principal Sustainability Consultant, will host a session on whole life carbon and adaptive reuse.
Reusing and retrofitting existing buildings offers a clear and sustainable alternative to demolishing and rebuilding, yet the UK demolishes 500,000 buildings every year. This session reviews current policies and barriers to change and looks at strategies for quantifying and communicating the whole-life carbon benefits of adaptive reuse and encouraging developers and clients to understand, improve and capitalise on the latent environmental, heritage, economic and social value of their existing assets.
Thu, 15 Oct, 8:30am - 11:30am BST

The wider month-long Regenerative Design 2026 programme will bring together leading voices to explore the ideas, innovations and challenges shaping regenerative design. Through workshops, roundtables, case studies and panel discussions, delegates will gain practical insights into systems thinking, circularity, adaptive reuse, biodiversity, social value and participatory design.
