Wolfson College hosts ASHRAE Net Zero Summit

An ariel view of buildings and greenery space

We were pleased to be part of the ASHRAE Net Zero Summit 2024 at Wolfson College, Oxford of University, where we delivered a first-of-its-kind decarbonisation project.

Bill Watts, Director, MEP Engineering, gave a presentation on the unique challenge of achieving net zero carbon in a Grade II-listed piece of Brutalist architecture.

Delegates also had the opportunity to tour the building and learn about the work we did to insulate and remove gas from the main site, and the innovative air-source heat pump system, using a low environmental impact CO2 refrigerant (rather than a more damaging refrigerant).

The total reduction in carbon emissions at Wolfson College is calculated to be more than 80% over the next 20 years, however the College now procures 100% renewable electricity and so the reduction in operational carbon emissions is 100%.

ASHRAE and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality and sustainability within the industry. The summit included a career fair, case studies, expert keynotes, and a round table panel.
