Innes is our Bristol office leader, having established the office in 2013. He also leads our Heritage Sector work, crystallising our thinking and approach on historic buildings. He is championing low-energy retrofit in challenging historic buildings across the South West and nationally.

Innes has a Masters in Engineering from the University of Cambridge, and joined Max Fordham for the freedom to explore ideas, find his own direction and have a stake in projects and the practice. He led our team on renovations to the Grade I-listed Bristol Old Vic Theatre, improving heating system efficiency and adding a contribution from air-source heat pumps, and was in charge of our work at the University of Bristol's Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus (TQEC) Research Hub, providing new hi-tech media facilities in a retained Victorian shell.

He is a climate expert on the Design West review panel and has been a regular member of the Architecture Today Schuco Awards panel. He has lectured and tutored Architectural and Environmental Engineering third and fourth-year students at the University of the West of England, and tutors annually at the Welsh School of Architecture.

“It's important to nurture the client's aspirations and design team relationships beyond project completion. In this way, buildings can work truly sustainably.“
