Yarumal Missionaries are an organisation that carry out community work with local groups in Rimpa, on the outskirts of Nairobi. 3000 Friends Farm is a space for them to meet, work, stay and collaborate.

Phase 1 of 3000 Friends Farm delivered accommodation, sanitary facilities, cooking and dining space, as well as central services such as water supply, rainwater collection and harvesting, waste water disposal and surface water drainage.

We provided environmental and MEP advice to support the development of the centre. This included:

• Passive design input and assessment of daylighting and natural ventilation for the accommodation and dining areas
• Assessments for site water and power requirements
• Review of local Civil Engineers’ storm water proposals, layouts and design parameters
• Calculations and sizing advice for the sanitation/septic tank.

The proposed phase 2 will deliver additional staff accommodation, study blocks, a workshop, a laundry, seminar rooms, a gym and a chapel.
